Gene Junk died peacefully at home on November 21, 2008 in Boulder, CO after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Denver, lived in Kansas during his early childhood, and grew up in Englewood. Following High School he studied at the Colorado Institute of Art and worked as a professional artist/illustrator. He was a founding member of Nyland Cohousing and Silver Sage Village Cohousing Communities where he will always be remembered for his many contributions to the design, caretaking and spirit of community.
Gene had a natural gift for painting portraits and landscapes, creating sculpture from stone and woodworking. He is remembered by many for his loyalty to friends, kindness, sense of humor, concern for others and the graceful simplicity with which he lived his life. As his illness progressed he expressed the hope that something good could come from all this and that everyone would appreciate their daily lives.
Gene was pre-deceased by his parents Karl and Lucille Junk, and two brothers, Ken and Richard. He is survived by his sisters Jeniece Morgan of Las Vegas, NV, Sue Junk of Colorado Springs, CO, a brother Stan Junk of Kelseyville, CA; members of his chosen family Susan Brooks, Ana McIntosh, Susan Booker, Lyn Wilchek, and a remarkably large circle of very dear friends and family. Memorial donations may be made to the Eugene J. Junk Trust which was established for the purpose of assisting Ana McIntosh with her education.
A celebration of Gene’s life will be held in January.
